Batey - June 11 Velvet

I made a trip to the lease June 11 to pull trail camera cards. While I was driving through the lease, I saw this doe regarding my truck from a little patch of woods. She didn't seem the least bit concerned by me, so I stopped the truck at a distance of 15 yards and took some photos. She seems to be still carrying her fawn!! Seems late, but I'm no biologist.

My Reconyx took nearly 11,000 photos! Of those approximately 7500 were of bucks. I did get 300 or so of racoons, and the rest were does. There were absolutely zero false triggers! That camera is amazing!!!

So while I have been pumped about following the Viking's progress on his own journal entry, I'm starting to realize that there are some other great bucks developing very nice antlers that simply don't seem as big because I'm comparing them to a very rare 150" plus Oklahoma buck.

It would appear that we are going to have several nice 3 year old bucks on the OK lease this year. While we have been using the Hurd Outdoors feeders for 2 years now, we only just started using the Hurd Outdoors feed as well. I'm hoping we got it in to the feeders early enough to boost this year's antler growth. It would seem to be working pretty well.

Stumpy is really starting to add some good antlers, making his name a bit of a misnomer, as I had hoped. But the clipped ear makes him easily recognizable and fun to follow.

The deer are carrying a lot of ticks on their ears right now. This feed has medicine for ticks in it, so I'm hoping here in another couple of weeks or so, those ticks will start dropping off.

Here's Stumpy coming in again.

This buck should be a pretty good 3 year old.

Good closeup of a doe.

Again, a buck with a lot of ticks. I'm really hoping the feed from Hurd Outdoors will help get these ticks off. We only just started using this feed, so it needs a bit to kick in.

A bit of fighting going on at the feeder.

Stumpy again on the right.

The bucks are really starting to kick in their growth now. While the buck on the left doesn't seem that impressive after looking at the Viking, I think that deer could be on track for a Pope and Young minimum. We'll see how his tines emerge.

Oh and did I mention that buck is Stumpy?

This deer was the bachelor buddy of the Viking until this point. The Viking didn't show with him during this instance. Maybe they will hook up again later. But this deer looks to also be a great looking buck, possibly headed for PnY minimum.

That's the best of this trip. Another update will come in a few weeks.
